The Final Astors: Where Is The Astor Family Today?
The Astor Family today, in the 21st century, has on one side thrive in a world of continued influence, political power, and financial clout, maintaining their storied past.
In this episode, we delve into the 21st-century lives of the remaining Astors, exploring the contrasts between their two branches.

1:30 Chapter 1: The “Anglo-American” Dynasty
6:37 Chapter 2: The British Astors
12:30 Chapter 3: The American Astors
----------------------------------------------------------
For much of the 19th and 20th centuries, having an Astor in your family tree was akin to possessing a golden ticket to the upper echelons of American society.
Even today, the Astor name graces some of the most iconic landmarks in the United States.
You can luxuriate at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, sip coffee beside the Astor-constructed New York Public Library, or dine at a chic spot on Astor Place in Manhattan.
Yet, beneath this polished legacy lies a tale of division and disparity.
The colossal Astor fortune bifurcated into two distinct branches, each on opposite sides of the Atlantic.
The story of the Astors began with John Jacob Astor, who left Germany for America in 1783 with little more than ambition and a fur trade venture.
By 1848, he was America’s first multimillionaire, and his offspring expanded the family's wealth, notably in New York real estate.
William Backhouse Astor Senior further amplified their fortune, while iconic family members like Mrs. Caroline Schermerhorn Astor helped define the "old money" versus "new money" dynamic.
The Astors' fame and fortune also wove into British nobility through strategic marriages.
For instance, American heiresses, including the Astors, married into British aristocracy, a trend also seen with figures like Consuelo Vanderbilt, whose dowry aided Blenheim Palace and, indirectly, supported Winston Churchill’s rise.
William Waldorf Astor, who moved to Britain in 1890, became the First Viscount Astor, and his descendants continued to shape British society.
Despite John Jacob Astor The Fourth's tragic death on the Titanic in 1912, the family’s influence persisted.
In the U.K., William Astor, the Fourth Viscount Astor, navigates his role with a mix of charm and controversy.
His marriage to Annabel Lucy Veronica Jones has further intertwined the Astor lineage with British politics through their children and connections like former Prime Minister David Cameron.
Similarly, John Jacob "Johnny" Astor The Eighth, 3rd Baron Astor of Hever, and his family continue to blend aristocratic and royal dimensions, with recent additions to the family including Princess Eliane Marie Ghislain de Merode.
Across the Atlantic, the American Astors present a more varied picture.
Vincent Astor, who inherited a vast fortune after his father’s death on the Titanic, became a prominent philanthropist and media mogul.
His marriage to Brooke Astor brought further prestige, but her son, Anthony Dryden Marshall, faced legal troubles that marred the family’s reputation.
Ivan Sergeyevich Obolensky, a descendant of John Jacob Astor, connects the family to Russian nobility, while Alexandra Aldrich’s memoir, "The Astor Orphan," provides a candid look at a family struggling between grandeur and financial reality.
Thus, the Astor family saga reveals a tale of two branches: one flourishing in the U.K. and the other grappling with financial and social challenges in the U.S.

Astor UK is more success than USA because they maintain their wealth & their marriage with high society to prince/princess.
criminal to richest.
We like to know about Lord Louis Mountbatten's family.
The Waldorf-Astoria is now owned by China. Google 100 Companies owned by China all American Companies 😢 SAD, SAD, SAD.
Very well presented and made me admire this fam,ily so much more
Scum
I am a 6 th generation Floridian and 4 th generation Miamian. My family came to South Florida when there were less than 1,000 residents in Dade County. My grandfather had great stories of life at that time. They were bridge builders. Mrs Brickell is the real heroine bcs she is said to have sent a bouquet of fresh orange blossoms to Flagler in the middle of winter to entice him to extend his railroad south. South Florida has so many great stories and men like Carl Fisher (Prestolite) and a rogue's gallery of other famous men and women were early pioneers. Mami was a fabulous place long before the Cocaine Cowboys! Few know that America's oldest city, St Augustine, is in Florida.❤️
This was tastefully done i applaud you for the respectful content of all the vanderbilts . I also learned some things as well that she had two more sons any ways RIP to the deceased and keep strong anderson ❤😊
Anderson Cooper's Interview with Harry was the end of his career, helping a Liar and a Traitor . Who Married a Scheming, Epstein, Failed Mattress Actress.
The Kennedys
Onassis’ granddaughter sold everything - didn’t care about it.
So what your saying is Anderson Cooper is not only handsome, he is also very smart and has two adorable sons. Anderson Cooper is my favorite journalist and I wish him and his family well.

And "just weeks later" after the yacht cruise with Onassis, Jackie, LHO and someone Jackie had fondly called "Uncle George" her entire lifetime... they all happened to be in Dallas on the same day... and it just so happens that same Uncle George was friends with LHO and LHO's wife.
Jackie was looking for security. A feeling of being safe. Onassis just wanted to say that she was his wife...another property to own.
I am from Fayetteville, AR. The Walton Family has done GREAT THINGS for the Northwest Arkansas community. Clearly, some people have gotten above their “raisin”. I remember the very rock trodden of Arkansas. My grandparents were from Tontitown. They had about 2,000 acres and were very good friends with John and Helen Tyson. They were the ones paying taxes in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. They were NOT Italian but guess who all my aunts and uncles married? Fayetteville was always the more prestigious area because of the U of A sports programs. Especially the football games. I moved away when I was about 22 and I am just now moving back after being gone for 45 years. People from the East Coast always got Arkansas mixed up with Arizona. (???) Doesn’t say much for geography education in this nation. Once people figured out where I was from then they started making fun of my being a Hog fan. I would explain that we were a small state. And if you knew the right 6 families then you knew the whole state. When we Hogs would win national titles then they really razzed me. I would say “when your state shrine is a pig…it keeps you from getting too big for you britches”! Arkansas is a great state to be from. And yes, we are pretty country folk. I can remember hearing my grandfather saying “In Arkansas we love to have you visit here. But leave your money on the way out”. Now, that is true Arkansas. Because we laugh all the way to the bank. 😊
SHE WAS A SUGAR BABY
Onassis was vile to Jackie!!! Alerting paparazzi to the time and places that she'd be doing yoga and sunbathing in the nude.
Starting to make America 🇺🇸 the third world country....Good for them and very bad for working class Americans
I don't really care about at. Just a politician that had some influence in the world that's it.......But for American people hard working he have done nothing but more expensive more taxes to the roof.....And the worst think that i seen doing the other thing with emigration.....Clinton before becoming president made speech about putting in force the laws for emigration......But instead he did the opposite letting the laws very loose illegal emigration flood at by millions from all over the world in the USA 🇺🇸
JFK committed adultery against Jackie continually humiliating her as the media covered for him. Good that she got away from them all.
In other words Onassis was a duplicate of JFK's behaviors...LOL
I would love to see an episode on Huguette Clark and the Clark family!
You forgot how Bill Clinton dodged the Vietnam draft with no consciences. While Muhammad Ali lost his titles and was banned from boxing.
I think Jackie married this scum because of what happened to her husband it’s a slap in the face to the American Government 🫣
As a Roman Catholic the coffin wasn't treated the right way.
They could solve poverty in India ,UK, third world countries . If they wanted to . They have a huge array of resources besides money with which to do it. But if they solved, poverty, stopped wars , who and what will they have left to exploit . You get rich have power & control by exploiting people & siutations.
you maybe someday cover pakistani old money family
By built.. they of course mean stole
JFK, Jr. would have been President….the best in our country’s history.
Their only failed murder was on trump
Does anyone else think that Hillary looks a lot like Patsy Ramsey
Just like Juan and Evita Peron ,power hungry ,un principaled
He hated her wanted PR. She wanted money
Please do feature Mary Pickford next!!!
You completely missed that they made their fortune in arms deals. And of course, careless management of all their businesses - none is no.1 in its field, and even now, they stupidly paid peanuts to their staff despite minimum wage laws. Very loose management. Now they are staring at jail.
Anderson cooper’s sons
I’m going to re-listen to your documentary. I’m curious about Anderson Cooper’s podcast begun in 2022 about surviving loss. Thank you.❤
Thank God
Money is powerful and money corrupts. And this goes beautifully with the Hinduja family with the exception of the Patriarch
Very good, just a bit scattered in the beginning. The information that one of Gloria's sons did not inherit any money from his mother doesn't take into account that they had just reconciled and he had distanced himself for about 50+ years from her and the family for unknown reasons. I'm happy they reunited, but it seems from all I've read he wanted nothing to do with the Vanderbilt legacy, name or money and was happier living a quiet life behind the scenes. I find it fascinating that not even a recent photo can be show of Christopher Stukowsi especially with a mother, Gloria and Father Leopold, being so famous. It's reported he works as a conductor under an assumed name to remain unknown. Sadly, Stan and Christopher didn't grow up with a Gloria who had learned how to properly parent until after she was remarried to Wyatt Cooper. Perhaps this made a big difference in how the dynamics were and they were often torn between two homes, the mother and father were divorced. It is reported that her son, Leopold Stan Stukowsi inherited her most valuable assets, her property. Gloria left her personal property and it's assets to Stan whom one can easily find photos of and who was featured in the documentary: Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper 2016 www.imdb.com/title/tt5275872/ I've always found Gloria very separate from most of the Vanderbilt of her era. Yes, she did live with her Aunt, but from the ages 10 to 17 a mere 7 years. Her 1st 10 years were with her distant mother and very close Nanny and Grandmother Morgan. Her Grandmother Morgan continued to play a role in her life during those years as did her mother whom she saw weekly and was distant and aloof. Gloria Vanderbilt was a unique, strong, amazing and talented woman I admire. She raised good children and learned how to parent, something she never had and found a husband she felt safe with, her father died when she was 1 month old. I hope her legacy lives on. I hope all of her 3 surviving children thrive in this world as life is not easy even if you have money and certainly when so much tragedy surrounds you.
My cousin Shannon Collins is awesome with drawings.
I write every now and then. I have had 2 poems published in Celebrate Poets Speak Out
No wonder the counties a mess, a single mother fucked us overs🙄, and she took all that land from the natives 🤣🤣
Just so cool.
I wouldn't say no to an inheritance
My great great grandmother was Martha E Ledford Cooper Trantham.
There are so many I mean like 38 murders that are linked directly to the clintons but the doj just says oh you don't know anything about him okay. Like the man secretary that was in the white house that was found on the Park Bench across the road and was last seen with Hillary but when asked about it they said they had no idea so they just dropped it of course drop the investigation because they didn't know anything. There's a lot of murder and conspiracy involving these people and it continues today when Bill Clinton was elected for the first time in my life I saw propaganda and lie after lie and supposedly he won. I think it was the first election that was stolen along with Obama and Biden I don't think the American people ever voted a majority for any of them and they've been throwing elections so long they've gotten blankets about it and just do it however they want kick people out that's watching the election bringing in votes in the middle of the night and nobody seen a damn thing about it I'm sick of it
Great grandpa Vanderbilt genes are strong….
